Subdomains, your page, and search

2026-09-27

A subdomain is not a magic ranking boost. It is a clean boundary: your page can be indexed as itself, and it does not live in a folder on the product’s domain.

What search engines see

studio.pagepod.me is a different host from pagepod.me. Crawlers can fetch it, read the title, the headings, and the text, and index it if the page is useful and allowed by its robots.txt. Pagepod does not add a noindex header to customer sites. We also do not list customer URLs in the product sitemap. Discovery of your page comes from links and from the crawler finding the host, not from us stuffing it into the marketing sitemap.

Folder hosting, such as pagepod.me/s/studio, would put your content on the same host as the product. That can pass reputation in both directions. A spam page in a folder is the company’s problem. A subdomain is still associated with the parent domain, but it is the clearer technical and editorial split, and it matches the security boundary we already need.

What actually helps the page

Write a specific title and a description that matches the page. Use one clear heading. Make the text worth opening. Compress images so the page loads quickly. Link to it from a place you already have, such as a profile or a README. Those steps matter more than repeating a keyword in hidden text.

The Pagepod marketing site ranks, if it ranks, for the product: free HTML hosting, static website hosting, and the explanations around them. Your subdomain ranks for whatever the page is about. Mixing those jobs onto one URL would make both worse.

What we will not do for SEO

We do not generate empty location pages, hide keywords, or cloak one document for Google and another for people. Those tricks burn a new domain quickly. The public guides are real pages about this host. New articles will be added when there is something new to explain, not on a timer that reprints the same paragraph.
