Most small websites are a handful of files. Free website hosting on Pagepod is for that shape: a finished static site, a subdomain, and a hard stop on server-side code.
A website, not an account on someone else’s disk
Classic free hosting put every customer in a folder on one machine and let PHP run inside it. The folders were never as separate as the control panel suggested. Pagepod publishes the website on its own hostname and keeps the dashboard on a different origin, so a script on the published site cannot call the account API with your login cookie.
You still get a normal website address you can send to someone. Replace the sample index.html whenever you like. Old files can be deleted from the publisher. The public URL stays the same.
Who this is for
Use it for a personal page, a club, a one-day event, a résumé, or a prototype you want a friend to open on a phone. If the site is a single HTML document with a stylesheet, you do not need to compare virtual private servers.
Do not use it for shops, inboxes, or anything that must keep a secret on the server. There is no database and no PHP. That absence is the product, not a missing feature we forgot to mention.
Indexing without borrowing the main domain
A free host that puts customer sites in folders under one domain shares that domain’s reputation with every upload. Pagepod keeps customer sites on subdomains.
